CHESTER, Pa. (April 14, 2017) - The Widener University baseball team fell to Arcadia, 27-5, in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action on Friday afternoon.
Senior Bob Barnet triggered the momentum for the Pride by stealing second after hitting a single through center field and
Greg McDonough advanced him home with an RBI single to put them ahead 1-0 early. The Knights, however, answered back with eight runs of their own in the next inning to steal the lead.
Senior
Kyle Lowery and Barnett each added a single to drive in two more runs for Widener and cut the deficit down to five in the bottom of the second frame. After a blank inning, Alvernia then padded its lead throughout the remaining frames while only allowing Widener to score one more run.
Joe Warren picked up the victory on the mound for Arcadia. He pitched four innings, surrendered three runs, one run, struck out six and issued three walks. Widener's
Kyle McKelvy suffered the loss. He threw one and two-thirds innings, surrendered eight runs, seven hits, struck out one and issued one walk
The Pride will return to action away on Saturday, April 15 as they will look to redeem themselves against Arcadia in a double header.
