Swarthmore Downs Women’s Lacrosse in Non-Conference Action

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2017) – The Widener University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to Swarthmore by a 14-4 score on Tuesday evening at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Widener opened the scoring when senior Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) found freshman Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.) at the 28:19 mark, but Swarthmore responded by rattling off four unanswered and never surrendered the lead. Briiana Narzikul converted a free position shot to make it 8-3 in favor of the Garnet at recess.

Swarthmore (7-4) netted six straight goals to balloon the lead up to 11. Elizabeth Wainwright scored three straight times before Chiang scored the last marker for the visitors on a free position with 14:36 left. Widener's Alicia Dech (Nazareth, Pa.) then drove through traffic and fired the ball past Garnet goalie Betsy Cohen with 12:24 on the clock to produce the final outcome.

Tess Wild and Narzikul led the way for Swarthmore, which outshot the Pride by a count of 22-14 and won 12 of the 20 draws. Wild contributed five points on three goals and two assists while also winning three draws and causing two turnovers, while Narzikul won a game-high five draw controls and found the back of the net twice. Wainwright scored four goals along with two helpers.

The Pride got strong contributions from Parent and sophomore Megan Racioppi (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) in the setback. Parent won three draws, while Racioppi scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover. Senior Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) turned away five shots between the pipes.

Widener (3-9) resumes Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play when it hosts Arcadia on Wednesday, Apr. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
