ANNVILLE, Pa. (April 1, 2017) – Senior
Angie Baricko (Toms River, N.J.) scored her first hat trick of the season, but it wasn't enough, as the Widener University women's lacrosse team fell to Lebanon Valley by a 9-7 score at Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon.
The teams played a tight first half and stayed neck-and-neck. With Widener trailing by two early in the half, freshman
Meg Steffney (West Deptford, N.J.) began to chip away at the deficit with a goal that was assisted by senior
Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.). Baricko scored two back-to-back goals to put the Pride up 4-2 and to keep them ahead for the remainder of the half.
Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore
Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.) each added a tally to send Widener into the recess with a leading score of 6-5.
Lebanon Valley (2-7, 2-0 MACC), however, recovered by scoring four straight goals to put the game out of reach in the second half. Sophomore
Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) had the only goal of the half for Widener that was credited with an assist to Steffney.
Senior
Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) turned away nine saves in the losing effort for Widener. Hannah Oliveras recorded seven saves for the victory between the pipes.
Widener (3-6, 0-2 MACC) is scheduled to return to action when it hosts Albright on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m.
