READING, Pa. (March 29, 2017) – The Widener University women's lacrosse team dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game to Alvernia by an 13-8 score on Wednesday in Reading, Pa.
The Pride started off with a quick 3-0 lead, as senior
Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) finished an unassisted goal before sophomore
Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) doubled the margin two minutes later. Freshman
Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.) added on a tally to the 2-0 lead just seconds later. Alvernia, however, answered with a 5-1 run by having three different players find the back of the net to pull ahead. With only six seconds remaining in the half, Widener stole back the lead with a goal from Parent to send them into the recess with a lead of 7-6.
Alvernia came out with vengeance by scoring the opening goal of the second half, but sophomore
Kaylee Horchak (Mullica Hill, N.J.) quickly answered back with an unassisted goal to keep the Pride in the lead. Shortly after, Brooke Campione put Alvernia ahead 9-8 and never looked back.
Senior
Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) turned away four shots, and Parent finished with five draws to go along with one ground ball and two goals.
Widener will return to action when it takes on Lebanon Valley away on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m.
