CHESTER, Pa. (March 11, 2017) – The Widener women's lacrosse team received goals from six different players as they earned a 15-5 victory over Neumann on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon field.
After an earlier one-goal deficit, sophomore
Kaylee Horchak (Mullica Hill, N.J.) tied the game up at one with her first of two goals. The sophomore received a pass from
Melanie Bert with 19:31 on the clock for the game-tying goal.
Shortly after, freshman
Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.) would score to put them ahead 2-1. With 15:36 on the clock, Widener began to pull away from the Knights with six more goals to end the half. Sophomore
Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.) who finished the game with four goals, added a free-position goal with 1:51 remaining in the first. The sophomore added two draw controls, one assist and three ground balls.
After the recess, the Pride went on a 6-0 run putting them ahead 14-2. Neumann attempted to fight back with two more goals, however, sophomore
Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) broke up the run by scoring an unassisted goal with 2:15 remaining in the game.
Senior
Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) recorded three goals, while Lynch, freshman
Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.), Horchak and junior
Alicia Dech (Nazareth, Pa.) each added two goals.
Senior
Grace Morales picked up the victory between the pipes for Widener. Neumann's Gabby Curry turned away six saves in the losing effort.
The Pride will be back in action on March 15 as they take on Cabrini home at 7:00 p.m.
