Women's Volleyball Wins Third in a Row with Sweep of Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sydney Nichols had 40 assists in recording her ninth double-double of the season as the Widener University women's volleyball team won its third straight match, downing the Lycoming Warriors 3-0 in a MAC Commonwealth contest on Wednesday night. The Pride won 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • It was the second time this season Nichols reached 40 or more assists in a match.
  • As a team, Widener hit .275.
  • Nicole Dorman led the Blue and Gold with 12 kills while Natalie Winn had 10.
  • Carly Histing hit .375 for the match with Nichols contributing five kills in seven attack attempts.
  • Widener displayed a good defense, holding Lycoming to a .144 hitting percentage and recorded 48 digs while allowing just 29 kills.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nichols opened the match strong, recording four kills from her setter position while also assisting on 12 others and dug three attacks.
  • Claire Kaufmann had five kills in six attempts, helping the Pride to a .333 hitting percentage.
  • A tight set early, the Blue and Gold broke open the frame with a 6-1 run to open a 18-12 lead.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS
  • Widener never trailed in the set, opening an early 8-4 lead that was only threatened once when Lycoming fought back to 14-13. The Pride responded, scoring the next five points.
  • Dorman led the way with six kills as Widener hit .250 in the set.
  • Winn helped the cause with a pair of service aces.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS
  • In a set of runs, the Blue and Gold ripped off eight points in a row to take a 14-6 lead. After trading side outs, the Warriors stormed back, going on an 11-2 spurt to take a 20-19 lead. The Pride responded, scoring six of the final seven points to claim victory.
  • Winn topped Widener with five kills.
  • Dorman played a strong defensive set with five digs and a block while contributing three aces.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride returns to action at home on Friday, Oct. 20 when it hosts Eastern. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
