CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2016) - Swarthmore College scored two late goals in the first half to record a 2-0 victory over the Widener University men's soccer team on Wednesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
The Garnet (2-1), who outshot the Pride 21-8, capitalized off a free kick taken by Tommy Sheehan in the 39th minute. With the Widener offense unable to find the back of the net, the visitors then added insurance when Michael Nafziger finished a through ball from Quentin Millette to close out the scoring.
Michael Thut made two saves for Swarthmore to pick up the win.
Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) turned away a season-high eight shots in the losing effort.
Widener (1-2) resumes action when it hosts Southern Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 12:00 p.m.
