GLASSBORO, N.J. (Sept. 3, 2016) – The Widener University volleyball team dropped both of its matches at the Rowan Invitational on Saturday afternoon and finished tournament play with a 2-2 ledger.
Muhlenberg 3, Widener 0 (19-25, 14-25, 20-25)
Early in the day, Muhlenberg defeated the Pride by set scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-20.
Kierston Forney (Manassas, Va), who was coming off a career outing against Emmanuel, registered a team-leading 10 kills to lead Widener offensively. Senior
Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) contributed 20 assists, while classmates
Lauren Elliott (Aston, Pa.) and
Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, Pa.) added 14 and 10 digs, respectively to pace the Pride on the defensive end.
Swarthmore 3, Widener 0 (22-25, 25-27, 18-25)
Swarthmore also proved to be too much for the Pride later in the afternoon, winning by set scores of 25-22, 27-25 and 25-18. Sophomore
Nicole Dorman (East Norriton, Pa.) had 12 kills against only two errors on 31 swings, which was good for a .323 hitting percentage, and Barbieri fell just shy of a double-double with 25 assists and eight digs. Elliott posted a season-high 21 digs, while sophomore
Janie Kalinock (Ellicott City, Md.) had four block assists. Freshman
Caroline Dangel (Eldersburg, Md.) reached double-digit digs for the first time by contributing 10.
Widener (2-2), which earned victories over Rowan and Emmanuel last night, next visits Lebanon Valley for its conference opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m.
