CHESTER, Pa. (Sep. 3, 2016) - The Widener University women's soccer team fell to Rutgers-Camden by a 1-0 decision on Saturday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
Widener dominated a scoreless first half against the Scarlet Raptors and out shot its opponent by a 9-2 over the first 45 minutes of play.
Lauren Wilson (National Park, N.J.) had two back-to-back attempts in the 13th minute, but her strikes were turned away by goalkeeper, Katie Gurba.
Widener (1-1) came out strong in the second half and had numerous opportunities to score, which included earning a corner kick three minutes into the frame. But while keeping Widener's offense in check, Rutgers-Camden was eventually able to capitalize off of a free kick taken by Maggie Sande from 20 yards out. The Pride fought back and had two more attempts less than ten minutes after the goal was scored, but unfortunately they could not push one past Gurba.
Gurba made five saves to help Rutgers-Camden (1-1) notch its first win of the season. The Pride's
Jenna Keating (Havertown, Pa.) turned away three shots in the losing effort.
The Pride will regroup and return to action to host Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
