Volleyball Falls Twice at Stockton Classic

GALLOWAY, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2016) – The Widener University volleyball team dropped both of its matches at the Stockton Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Pride dropped a 3-1 decision to the host school before being dealt a loss in straight sets against #22-ranked Mary Washington.

Stockton 3, Widener 1 (21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 17-25)
After dropping the first two sets against host Stockton, Widener started to rally by taking the third frame. The Ospreys, however, recovered by capturing the fourth set to win the match. Sophomore Nicole Dorman (East Norriton, Pa.) paced the Pride in the loss by registering another double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Senior Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, Pa.) and sophomore Kierston Forney (Manassas,  Va.) finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while senior Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) contributed 38 assists and classmate Lauren Elliott had 17 digs.

#22 Mary Washington 3, Widener 0 (13-25, 14-25, 17-25)
Mary Washington, which is ranked 22nd nationally by the AVCA, proved to be too much for the Pride later in the day and took a quick match in straight sets. Forney had another solid effort by tallying nine kills and hitting at a .241 clip. Barbieri notched 15 assists, and Dorman finished with a team-leading 10 digs.

Widener (6-9) resumes Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action when it visits Alvernia on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
