WILKES BARRE, Pa. (Sept. 24 2016) - The Widener University men's soccer team fought hard but fell to King's College in double overtime by a 1-0 decision on Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
King's (4-4) outshot Widener 5-2 in the first half, but the Pride came out with vengeance in the second frame and went head-to-head with the Monarchs and matched them with an even shot count at 2-2. However, neither team was able to make a mark on the board to force the match into overtime.
The only goal of the match was scored by Brian Fenster in the 104th minute of double overtime off a defensive block from the Widener back line.
Senior
Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa) recorded one save in 104 minutes for the Pride, while the Monarchs' Owen Greedy turned away two shots.
Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, Md.) recorded a game-high three shots.
Widener (2-5-1) will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 when it competes against Stevens at 7 p.m. on the road.
