Baseball Earns Road Victory Over Misericorida

DALLAS, Pa. (April 6, 2016) – The Widener baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opponent Misericordia on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Pride improve to 13-10, while the Cougars fall to 14-10.
 
Junior Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.) led the game off with a double to right center. After advancing to third base on a fly out by Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.), the third baseman scored on a sacrifice pop up by junior Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.).
 
Glenn Seymour (Eagleville, Pa.) led off the third inning with his second double of the year. Freshman Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.) moved the catcher over on a sacrifice bunt the very next play. Seymour would score to give Widener a 2-0 advantage on wild pitch by Michael Turton.
 
McDonough reached base in the top of the third inning on a walk. The junior outfielder would steal second base for his 12th stolen base of the year, and would score on an RBI single to left field by Barnett.
 
The Pride would add two more in the top of the fifth inning for a 5-2 lead. Sophomore Kyle Lowery (Norristown, Pa.) led the top off the sixth inning off with a walk. The first baseman would advance to third base on a single to center field by Seymour.
 
D'Alessandro would score Lowery on a single to right center as Widener took a 6-2 lead into the seventh inning.
 
Joseph Addvensky (Milford, Pa.) would pinch run for Barnett, who led off the inning with a walk, in the top of the seventh inning. Addvensky would later score on a bases loaded walk to Seymour for a 7-2 advantage.
 
Seymour finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and a run scored. Barnett ended the game 2-for-3 from the plate with three runs batted in and one stolen base.

Sophomore hurler Matthew Guarino (Jackson, N.J.) earned the victory on the mound. The lefty allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings of work. Guarino fanned three and walked three for the victory.
 
Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) was 2-for-4 from the dish, while D'Alessandro finished the game 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Lowery added two walks as he was 0-for-2 on the day.
 
The Blue and Gold will be back in action on Friday as they travel to take on Stevenson in Owings Mills, Md. The Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
