Women's Lacrosse Falls to Albright in Final Seconds

READING, Pa. (April 20, 2016) – The Widener women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker to Albright, 14-13, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Pride fall to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in MAC Commonwealth action, while the Lions improve to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Jacqui Montague opened the scoring for Albright with just under three minutes into the game. After another goal by the Lions, Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, N.J.) got the scoring started for the Blue and Gold with her 15th of the year.
 
Just two minutes later, Angie Baricko (Toms River, N.J.) tied the game up at two apiece.
 
The Pride and Lions would enter half-time tied at seven. Mariah Cullen gave Albright the 8-7 lead with an unassisted goal just over two minutes into the second half.
 
Baricko tied the game up with the help of Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.). Widener and Albright would exchange goals for the next few minutes before the Blue and Gold took a 12-10 lead with 9:40 remaining in the game.
 
The game would remain tied at 12 goals each until Erin Farrell gave Albright a 13-12 lead with 1:20 left in the game. Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.) added her fourth goal of the game as she tied it up at 13 with 24 seconds left in the game.
 
Amanda Smith scored on a free-position shot to give Albright the victory with 14.1 seconds remaining in the MAC Commonwealth contest.
 
Clasing finished the game with four goals and three draw controls. Sailey added three goals on four shots and picked up six ground balls in the loss. Baricko and Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) each added two goals and picked up one ground ball for the Blue and Gold.
 
Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves and picked up two ground balls against Albright.
 
Widener will be back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they take on Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth contest in Glenside, Pa.
