CHESTER, Pa. (April 13, 2016) – The Widener baseball team finished Wednesday's game in an 18-18 tie after nine innings of play against Eastern in a non-conference contest.

Widener moves its record to 15-12-1, while Eastern records a third tie on the season for a record of 10-11-3. The game between the schools from opposite sides of the Middle Atlantic Conference lasted four hours before it was called due to darkness.

The Eagles opened the first frame with three runs. After a scoreless bottom half of the first inning, the Pride would score nine runs in the second frame. Junior Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) started the inning off with a bunt single. The shortstop would advance to second when Stephen DeBellis (Marlton, N.J.) was hit by a pitch.

Both Enos and DeBellis advanced into scoring position after a balk by Tommy Strazza. Glenn Seymour (Eagleville, Pa.) would hit home Enos to get Widener on the board on an RBI single to right field. The Pride would tie the game up at three no outs on the board with an RBI single to left center field by Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.).

Eastern would make a pitching change as Widener threatened to take the lead with no outs in the second inning. Grant Fisher would throw a wild pitch to score Brennan Taylor (Maple Shade, N.J.) with Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) at the plate.

Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) stepped to the plate with no outs and the bases loaded after the McDonough walk. The junior left fielder would knock in D'Alessandro on a bloop single to left field for a 5-3 Widener advantage.

The Blue and Gold would bat around as they added four more runs to end the second inning with a 9-3 lead. D'Alessandro finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored and five batted in. The freshman also added two walks and a stolen base in the game.

Five Widener batters would be hit by a pitch in the game, with seven combining for 14 hits. Barnett ended the game 2-for-6 from the dish with three runs scored and two runs batted in.

McDonough added a 3-for-4 day from the plate with one run scored and a walk. The juniors first hit of the game was for a double off the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning.
