Baseball Falls in Offensive Battle to La Roche

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 9, 2016) – The Widener baseball team fell in an offensive battle to La Roche, 17-12, on Wednesday morning in Fort Pierce, Fla.
 
The Pride, who fall to 5-3 on the season, dropped a contest on Monday to the RedHawks, 5-3. La Roche improves to 5-3 on the season.
 
Widener opened up with a five-run second inning for a 6-2 lead. After La Roche took a 8-6 lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Pride tied the game with a two-run bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Junior Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) was 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs. All three of the shortstops hits were singles.
 
Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) added a triple and one run batted in. The right fielder scored four times in six plate appearances.
 
Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.) notched a double against the Redhawks. The freshman left fielder added a run scored for the Pride.
 
Widener picked up 15 hits, while La Roche notched 18 hits. DJ Burns (Wilmington, Del.) was 1-for-2 from the plate with a single. Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) added two hits and two RBIs, and one run scored in the game.
 
Elliot Snyder (Mountain Top, Pa.) received the loss on the mound after allowing four hits and two runs in just over one inning of work.
  
The Pride will be back in action on Thursday as they take on Penn State-Behrend at 12:30 p.m. in Fort Pierce, Fla.
