Women's Lacrosse Tops Misericordia in MAC Cross-Conference Play

CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 8, 2016) – The Widener University women's lacrosse team earned a 13-10 victory over Misericordia in a cross Middle Atlantic Conference game on Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla.
 
The Pride of the MAC Commonwealth improve to 2-0, while the Cougars of the MAC Freedom fall to 1-2.
 
Sophomore Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) opened the scoring for the Pride just 42-seconds into the game. The midfielder received a pass from junior Brooke Clasing (Shrewbury, Pa.) to score the man-up goal.
 
Just under two-minutes later, Powell added a free-position goal to give Widener a two goal lead. The sophomore midfielder would add her third goal of the game with 27:02 remaining in the first half. The goal, assisted by Clasing, gave Widener a 3-0 lead.
 
Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, N.J.) would add two goals in the first half. The seniors goal with 5:46 remaining in the first was assisted by Powell.
 
Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) would add three goals and one assist in the final frame, while Sailey would notch two goals. Powell added a goal and two assists in the second half.
 
Freshman Kristi Roher (Seaville, N.J.) recorded her first collegiate goal with just over four minutes remaining in the game.
 
Junior Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) picked up three ground balls for the Blue and Gold. Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) earned the victory in the net with 13 saves.
 
The Pride will return to action on Thursday as they take on Rivier in Clearwater, Fla. at 11:00 a.m.
