LaRosa Earns 100th Victory in Sweep Over Immaculata

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 5, 2016) – Head coach Mike LaRosa earned his 100th career victory at the helm of the Widener University baseball program as the Pride earned two victories over Immaculata on Saturday.
 
In game one, the Pride earned a 6-5 victory over the Mighty Macs to give LaRosa his 100th career victory at Widener. Widener started the game two off just where they finished game one as they defeated Immaculata, 9-6. The Pride improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Mighty Macs fall to 4-7.
 
Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pride trailed Immaculata 5-1, but was able to score four runs to tie the game up. Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.), Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.) and Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.) each walked to started the bottom of the fifth inning off.
 
Junior Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) knocked in Enos and D'Alessandro on an RBI double. Elfreth, who advanced to third on the double, would score on the very next play with a sacrifice fly to right field by Bob Barnett (Glendolden, Pa.). McDonough advanced to third base on the play.
 
Justin Healey (Ocean City, N.J.) tied the game up as he scored McDonough on a sacrifice fly to center field. Healey finished the game 1-for-2 from the plate with two runs batted in and one strikeout.
 
The bottom of the sixth inning was started off by a single off the bat of John Petrongolo (Blackwood, N.J.). Freshman Brennan Taylor (Maple Shade, N.J.) came on to pinch run for the first baseman, and he would later score on a wild pitch by Kyle Bacher.
 
Junior Donovan Davis (Wallingford, Pa.) earned the victory after allowing no hits or runs, while walking one in an inning of work. Elfreth earned the save after fanning two batters in an inning of work.
 
In game two, the Pride scored three runs in the second and four in the third for a 7-2 advantage mid-way through the game.
 
Enos was up to the plate with Healey on second, after he had stolen a base. The shortstop scored Healey on an RBI double. The next better, Stephen DeBellis (Marlton, N.J.), recorded his first collegiate hit with an RBI single to score Enos.
 
After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matthew Guarino (Jackson, N.J.), DeBellis scored would score on a ground out to shortstop by Cory Snyder (Kintnersville, Pa.).
 
With a 7-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning and one out, D'Alessandro recorded his first collegiate triple. The two-RBI triple would score Snyder and Guarino.
 
Josh Lafferty (Pottstown, Pa.) earned the victory after allowing five hits, three runs and striking out seven in five innings of work.
 
Enos finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
 
Widener will be back in action on Sunday as they take on La Roche at 4:30 p.m. in Fort Pierce, Fla.
