Women's Lacrosse Edged By Swarthmore's Second Half Rally

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (March. 19, 2016) – The Widener women's lacrosse team was edged by a second half rally from Swarthmore as they fell in the non-conference contest, 10-8, at the Clothier Field Stadium on Thursday night.
 
The Pride fall to 3-4, while the Garnet improve to 4-4 on the season.
 
After almost a seven minute defensive battle, midfielder Angie Baricko (Toms River, N.J.) opened the scoring with a goal on a pass from Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.). Clasing would add a goal just under two minutes later to give Widener a 2-0 lead.
 
Clasing's 11th goal of the season was assisted by classmate Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.).
 
Baricko notched her second goal of the game as the clock expired on the first half. The junior's goal, which was assisted by Clasing, gave Widener a 5-3 advantage at the break.
 
Lizzie Kolln would get the scoring started for Swarthmore as she recorded her 21st goal of the season with 24:14 remaining in the game. Freshman Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) gave the Pride a two-goal lead with an unassisted goal just minutes later.
 
The Garnet, who would end the game on five unanswered goals, would outscore the Pride 7-3 in the second half.
 
Baricko finished the game with three goals on five shots and one draw control. Senior Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) recorded two goals on six shots and grabbed five draw controls, while picking up three ground balls.
 
Clasing finished the game with one goal and two assist, while picking up one ground ball and a draw controls. Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.) added a goal in the non-conference game.
 
Junior Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) notched six saves in the net.
 
Widener will be back in action on Saturday as they open up Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play against Hood in Frederick, Md. The conference game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
