Women's Lacrosse Drops Contest to Ursinus

CHESTER, Pa. (March 23, 2016) – The Widener women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Ursinus, 14-4, on Wednesday night at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
The Pride fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Bears improve to 4-3.
 
Senior Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) opened the scoring just under three minutes into the game, but Ursinus would tally seven unanswered goals to seize control. The Bears took an 8-2 advantage with them into the break and slowed the game down in the second half before eventually earning the 10-goal victory.
 
Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, N.J.) added a goal for the Blue and Gold with just over five minutes left the first half. Garvey, who notched her 14th goal of the season with 6:28 remaining in the game, also won three draw controls. Lindsey Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.) recorded a goal for the Pride while also picking up two ground balls and winning one draw control.
 
Widener was 0-for-4 on free-position shots, but held an 18-13 advantage in ground balls. Freshman Megan Racioppi (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
 
The Pride will be back in action next Thursday as they hit the road to take on Swarthmore at 7 p.m.
