Offense Leads Baseball to Victory Over Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. (March. 18, 2016) - Two break-out innings fueled the Widener baseball team to victory over Lebanon Valley, 13-4, in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener at McGill Field on Friday.

The Pride improve to 6-5 and 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth action, while the Dutchmen fall to 5-7 and 0-1 in conference play.

Widener opened up the game with one run in the top half of the first inning on an RBI double by Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.). The two-base hit to left centerfield by the junior scored Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.).

Lebanon Valley would tie the game up in the home half of the second inning. The Dutchmen would threat in the third inning as Colin Albright stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. Junior Kyle McKelvy (Collegeville, Pa.) would strike out the sophomore catcher looking to end threat.

Glenn Seymour (Eagleville, Pa.) knocked home Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) to start off a five-run top of the sixth inning. The sophomore would later score on a two run single to right field by McDonough.

Barnett would score Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.) and McDonough on a single to left center to cap off the sixth inning.

Justin Healey (Ocean City, N.J.) got the scoring started with an RBI double to left center in the top of the eighth inning. Barnett and Enos each added RBI singles for the Blue and Gold.

Barnett would finish the game 4-for-6 from the place four runs batted in and a run scored. Elfreth, who scored twice, was 3-for-5 from the plate with one walk.

Healey ended the game 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

McKelvy allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings of the work on the mound. The senior fanned four and walked one to earn the victory.

The Blue and Gold will be back in action on Saturday as they host Lebanon Valley in a MAC Commonwealth double header slated to begin at 12 p.m.
