Early Deficit Too Much for Women's Lacrosse Against Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. (March. 17, 2016) – The Widener women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early deficit as they fell to Cabrini, 19-8, on Thursday night.
 
The Pride fall to 3-1, while the Cavaliers improve to 2-2. Widener was held to single digits in goals for the first time all season, as they were outshot 45 to 28.
 
Just over thirty seconds into the game, Allie Vallen opened the scoring with an unassisted goal. A minute later, senior Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, N.J.) tied the game up on a free-position goal.
 
Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) would stop a three goal run by Cabrini as she put home a pass from Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.). The sophomore's 12th goal was scored with 23:24 remaining in the first and cut the Cavaliers lead in half. She would finish the game with two goals on five shots and picked up a ground ball.
 
Garvey, who would finish with two goals and three assist, would cut the lead down to one on a free-position goal with 15:48 left in the first half. The senior grabbed three draw controls, one ground ball and forced one turnover.
 
Scott would finish the game with two goals on three shots. Senior Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, N.J.) would add a goal and picked up two ground balls against Cabrini.
 
Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.) and Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.) would each add a goal for the Pride. Clasing picked up three ground balls, while Rohrer grabbed three draw controls.
 
Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) recorded ten saves and picked up six ground balls in goal for the Pride. Cabrini was held to 18-for-22 on clear attempts in the game, while Widener was 18-for-28 on clearance attempts.
 
Widener will be back in action on Saturday as they host Susquehanna at 1 p.m. at Edith R. Dixon Field.
