CARLISLE, Pa. (March 12, 2016) – Dickinson used a balanced scoring attack by having 11 players find the back of the net en route to a 16-6 victory over the Widener University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.
The game appeared like it would be competitive from start to finish with each team netting a goal less than 90 seconds into the match. Dickinson, however, got four straight goals from four different players to begin pulling away.
After freshman
Shane Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored to make it a three-goal margin at the end of the first period, the Red Devils tallied eight unanswered to burst out to a 13-2 lead. Senior
Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) then fired a buzzer-beating laser to the back of the net to close out the third quarter and opened the scoring in the fourth, but the deficit was too much for the Pride to overcome.
Tyler Llewellyn led the balanced scoring attack by netting three goals for Dickinson (4-1), which outshot Widener by a count of 67-29 and also had commanding advantages of 18-6 on faceoff wins and 41-18 in the ground game. Tyler Strods finished with two goals, while Nick Baxter and Andrew Jones combined for eight saves in net.
Freshmen
Shane Taylor and
Kevin Kerby (Scotch Plains, N.J.) each netted their first collegiate goals to help pace Widener in the setback. Senior captain
Tyler McClary (Galena, Ohio) made 14 saves between the pipes before he was relieved of his duties late in the third, and sophomore
Shane Cook (Lincoln, Pa.) finished with three ground balls and one caused turnover.
Widener (1-3) will continue playing a challenging non-conference schedule when it visits Ursinus on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.
