Pitchers Duel Slows Offense Down Against Wilkes

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March. 11, 2016) – The Widener University baseball bats were quiet as they fell to Wilkes, 2-1, in their final game on Friday in Fort Pierce, Fla.
 
The Pride took a one run lead in the top half of the second inning as Stephen DeBellis (Marlton, N.J.) scored on an error. Justin Healey (Ocean City, N.J.) hit a ground ball towards second, which would get by Jack Fischer, allowing DeBellis to score.
 
Sophomore Josh Lafferty (Pottstown, Pa.) received the loss on the hill after allowing two runs in eight innings pitched. The right-handed hurler fanned seven and walked zero while allowing seven hits.
 
Forrest Jordan, who received the victory on the mound for Wilkes, allowed three hits and struck out one in three innings of work on the mound. Widener was held to eight hits on the game.
 
Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) was 2-for-4 from the plate with one walk. Third baseman Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.) was held hitless for only the third time this week, as he was 0-for-4 from the dish.
 
Freshman Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.) was 1-for-2 from the plate with two walks.
 
Widener, who falls to 5-5, will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Aston, Pa. to take on Neumann. First-pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. Wilkes improves to 5-4 on the season.
