CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2016) – Freshman
Jill Bujanowski (Edgewater Park, N.J.) won three individual events in her first collegiate meet as the Widener University women's swimming team earned a 190-71 victory over Stevenson in the opening dual meet of the season for both schools on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Center. Widener won gold in 13 of the 14 events to cruise to victory.
Bujanowski started off the afternoon by swimming the leadoff leg for the winning 200-yard medley relay team which touched the wall in 1:55.17. The group also included freshman
Sammy Grogan (Newtown, Pa.), sophomore
Lauren Griffith (Doylestown, Pa.) and senior
Melaney Heald (Georgetown, Del.).
The Widener freshman followed up her debut performance by winning her first individual race and capturing the 100 back in 1:02.44. She ended the afternoon by also placing first in the 100 fly and 200 IM in times of 1:01.42 and 2:18.62, respectively.
Other notable individual performances were made by junior
Christine Kunzler (Livermore, Calif.) and Heald. Kunzler won the 50 and 100 free events in 25.25 seconds and 56.01, while Heald was victorious in the 200 free in 2:01.42 and the 200 back with a mark of 2:20.47.
Widener (1-0, MAC 1-0) will next host Misericordia on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 a.m. during Homecoming Weekend.
