With all the conference shifting, non-conference rivalry games have become a thing of the past, even on the Division III level.
Widener and Rowan may have solved that problem.

The Pride and the Profs will play the second of four meetings through 2017 when Rowan visits Quick Stadium Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams. Rowan head coach Jay Accorsi and Widener boss Mike Kelly would like to make it an annual affair.
"We could call it, 'The Battle of the Bridge,' or the 'Commodore Barry Bridge Cup,' something like that to make it a special thing for both institutions and both programs," Accorsi said.
"I know Jay has talked about getting a trophy for the game and call it "The Battle of the Bridge," I think that's good for the area and good for both programs," Kelly said. "We end our (regular) season with the Keystone Cup (against Delaware Valley) so we could open the season with the Battle of the Bridge."
Whatever the game would be called, the game is a natural. The schools are separated by 20 miles. That's 21 miles closer than Widener's nearest MAC opponent (Delware Valley) and 40 miles closer than Rowan's nearest NJAC foe (College of New Jersey).
