Baseball Falls in Non-Conference Battle to NJAC Champion Kean, 7-3

UNION, N.J. (May 7, 2015) – The Widener baseball team fell in a non-conference battle to NJAC champion Kean, 7-3, on Thursday at Jim Hynes Stadium.
 
Sophomore right fielder Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with an RBI base knock to left field. He knocked in classmate Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) on his first of three hits in the game.
 
Later in the game, Barnett would once again score Enos to cut into the lead by the Cougars. Barnett finished the game 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs batted in and a stolen base. The sophomore short stop Enos, was 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and one walk. One of the hits recorded by the shortstop was a double.
 
Senior Matt Scherer (Havertown, Pa.) was 1-for-3 from the plate with two walks. He added a stolen base for the Blue and Gold.
 
Junior lefty Joe Santone (Blackwood, N.J.) was dealt the loss on the mound as he falls to 4-4. He allowed nine hits, seven runs and no walks in three innings of work.
 
Freshman hurler Josh Lafferty (Pottstown, Pa.) allowed two hits and no runs in five innings of relief on the mound for the Pride.
 
Widener will be back in action on Friday as they host regionally-ranked Rowan at 4:00 p.m.
