Bats Go Cold as Baseball Falls to Non-Conference Foe Rowan

CHESTER, Pa. (May 8, 2015) – The Widener baseball team struggled to get the offense going as they fell to non-conference opponent Rowan, 20-3 on Friday afternoon.
 
The Pride were held hitless through the first five innings. The Profs improved to 25-14, while Widener falls to 23-20.
 
Designated hitter Kyle Lowery (Norristown, Pa.) notched the first hit for the Pride in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-handed bat hit a 2-1 pitch to left center field. The freshman finished the game 1-for-3 from the plate.
 
Freshman first baseman John Petrongolo (Blackwood, N.J.) was 2-for-4 from the plate with a run batted in. He opened the bottom half of the seventh inning with a first pitch single up the middle.
 
Seniors Matt Scherer (Havertown, Pa.) and Michael Rytelewski (Brick, N.J), as well as sophomore Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) each added a hit in the loss.
 
Ryan Pavlik was 4-for-6 from the plate for Rowan. He added four runs scored and three RBIs.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Saturday in the semi-final round of the ECAC Southeast Championship Tournament. Widener, seeded number two, will take on Stockton at 4:00 p.m. in Westminister, Md.
