Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Bested By Conference-Leader Stevenson, 16-3, on Senior Day

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 25, 2015) – On the final day of the regular season, the Widener men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-3 Commonwealth match-up to No. 7 Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

Stevenson remains perfect in conference play with the win at 8-0 and also improving to 13-4 on the year.  Widener dips to 6-9 overall and 5-3 in league action.

The Mustangs commanded the contest from the start, holding a 5-0 lead after the first quarter, and extending that lead to 9-0 with 7:21 remaining in the first half.  The Pride managed to get on the board with 1:21 remaining in the second quarter as junior midfielder Marc LaVine (Nashua, N.H.) found junior attacker Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) during an extra-man effort.

The visitors opened the latter stanza on a five-score run to extend its advantage to 14-1 at the close of the third quarter.  Sophomore attacker Tyler Schulte (Southhampton, N.J.) provided some life for the blue and gold as he notched back-to-back tallies in the opening minutes of the final quarter.  His first came off a feed from LaVine in the 47th minute on a man-up opportunity.  He then followed it with an unassisted effort 2:02 later.  That would be all the scoring the Pride would muster as the Mustangs closed with two additional goals to secure the 16-3 victory granting them first-place in the upcoming Commonwealth Conference Championships.

Junior attacker Pat Candon led the way offensively, turning in a six-point day on three goals and three assists.  Schulte was the leader for the Pride with his two goal performance.

In cage, Connor Skeen earned his sixth win of the year making four saves.  His counterpart, junior Tyler McClary (Galena, Ohio) turned aside a season-high 19 shots.

The Pride await their seeding for the upcoming conference championships once the rest of the league concludes its games this afternoon.
