Women's Lacrosse Drops Hard-Fought Battle to Arcadia, 10-6

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 21, 2015) – The Widener women's lacrosse team dropped a tough match-up to Arcadia on Tuesday night, falling 10-6 at the Edith R. Dixon Field.

With the win, the Knights improve to 11-5 on the year and 4-3 in Commonwealth play, while Widener slips to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Junior midfielder Meghan Garvey (Avon Grove, Pa.) did not waste any time kick-starting the night's scoring as she won the opening draw and received a give-and-go from sophomore attacker Jamie Hills (Ridley Park, Pa.) to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage just 18 seconds into the contest.  In the third minute, Arcadia's Erin Misner scored her first goal of the night to even the score.  Another two visitor goals found the back of the net before Garvey notched her second tally of the game to cut Arcadia's lead to one at 3-2.  The Knights answered, though, with a three-score run to close out the half holding a 6-2 edge.

Misner made it four-straight goals for Arcadia in the 33rd minute to extend the Knights' lead to 7-2.  But the blue and gold were persistent, as junior attacker Lindsey Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.) and freshman attacker Kelsey Powell (Washington Twp., N.J.) registered back-to-back unassisted efforts to pull within three.  Arcadia traded an Adeline Bellesheim marker for another two Pride scores, this time Hills received the helper from junior midfielder Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, Pa.) and Garvey assisted on a goal by junior attacker Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, N.J.).

That would prove to be the end of Widener's comeback, as the Knights added two insurance goals in the final 7:23 minutes of action.

Senior Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) recorded eight saves in goal, while Jordyn Dunacusky turned aside nine shots for Arcadia.

The visitors held a 22-18 advantage in shots, including an 18-15 mark on goal.  The Pride scooped up 23 ground balls to the Knights' 18, and had 17 turnovers to Arcadia's 18.  Each side won nine draws on the night.  In the clear attempts, the blue and gold were 13-of-16, while the Knights were successful on 17-of-19 attempts.

The Pride close out their regular season on Saturday, Apr. 25 when they make the trip to Owings Mills, Md. for a Commonwealth match-up at Stevenson.  Play is set to start at 1 p.m.
