Dunn Notches 500th Save as Women's Lacrosse Falls to Messiah, 18-5

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Apr. 18, 2015) – With the first save she notched in the contest, senior goalkeeper Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) registered the 500th of her career as the Widener women's lacrosse team dropped a league contest at the Starry Athletic Complex to Messiah by a 18-5 final.

The Falcons improve to 10-4 on the season and remain spotless at 6-0 in Commonwealth action, while the Pride dip to 6-7 on the year and even out at 3-3 in conference play.

Her 500th save came on Messiah's third shot at the 2:09 mark after the first shot attempt opened the scoring of the game just 14 seconds in and the second sailed high above Dunn's stick and the cage.

The Falcons were able to rattle off another seven goals before the Pride found their way on the board.  With just under nine minutes to play in the opening half, sophomore attacker Jamie Hills (Ridley Park, Pa.) found sophomore midfielder Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) for the visitors' first score of the game.  That would be the last tally of the half as Messiah led 8-1 heading into the intermission.

They once again opened the scoring in the half, but Hills sent home an unassisted effort in the 35th minute to cut the score to 10-2.  After a three-goal rally by Messiah, junior midfielder Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) found the back of the net on a feed from Hills and followed it up 10 minutes later with an unassisted tally to cut the advantage to 10 goals once more.  With 1:01 remaining to play, sophomore midfielder Angie Baricko (Toms River, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season for Widener's final goal of the day.

Messiah outshot the Pride 44-13, including 29-13 on goal.  The home squad scooped up 22 groundballs to Widener's 16, and won 16 of 24 draws on the day.

Dunn finished with 11 saves in the loss in net, while her counterpart Alexa Dipeso turned aside eight Widener shots over the course of the contest.

The Pride look to bounce back on Tuesday, Apr. 21 as they host Arcadia for a 7 p.m. contest at the Edith R. Dixon Field.
