Baseball Extends Streak with Non-Conference Victory Over Eastern, 11-5

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (Apr. 15, 2015) – The Widener baseball team extended their win streak to four consecutive games with an 11-5 victory over non-conference foe Eastern on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Pride improved to 15-11, and the Eagles fell to 9-15.
 
Senior Matt Scherer (Havertown, Pa.) extended his hit streak to ten straight games with a two hit day against Eastern. The left fielder was 2-for-4 from the plat with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
 
The senior knocked in all three of his runs when he notched his second home run of the season to deep left field in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) and freshman Joseph Addvensky (Milford, Pa.) each scored on the homer.
 
Freshman designated hitter John Petrongolo (Blackwood, N.J.) recorded his second home run of his career with a two-run bomb to right field in the top of the fourth inning. He scored the senior left fielder on the play.
 
The freshman finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
 
Petrongolo and Scherer each lead the team with two home runs, with both of home runs coming the same game.
 
McDonough was 1-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. He added a solo home run to center field in the top of the eighth inning.
 
Freshman Evan Dymond (River Vale, N.J.) earned his first collegiate victory with three-plus innings of work.  The lefty allowed four hits, two walks and one run in the victory.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Frederick, Md. to take on Hood in Commonwealth action at Harry Grove Stadium.
