Hills, Powell Lead Women's Lacrosse to Victory Over Commonwealth Foe Lycoming, 12-5

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2015) – The Widener women's lacrosse team extended their Commonwealth Conference winning streak to three games with a 12-5 victory over Lycoming on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
The Pride improve to 6-5 and 3-1 in Commonwealth play, while the Warriors dropped to 7-4 with a 0-4 conference record.
 
Sophomore attacker Jamie Hills (Ridley Park, Pa.) and freshman Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) netted three goals apiece in the victory.
 
Hills recorded her first goal mid-way through the first half to give Widener a 5-2 advantage. The sophomore added one assist, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Hills was also 1-for-1 on free position shots.
 
Powell, who leads the team with 27 goals, gave the Pride an earlier 2-1 advantage with an unassisted goal in the first half. The freshman finished with 1-for-2 on free position shots, two assists and one ground ball. Powell's first assist of the game was just 30-seconds into the game on a goal scored by junior Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, N.J.).
 
The freshman also assisted junior Lindsey Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.) with her fifth goal of the season. Brust scored with 2:08 left in the first half to give Widener an 8-2 advantage at half-time.
 
Senior Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes of play to earn the victory.
 
Meghenn Jackson led the Warriors with three goals.
 
Junior Meghan Garvey (Avon Grove, Pa.) notched two goals in the victory. Scott, Brust, junior Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, Pa.) and sophomore Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.) each netted a goal in the conference victory.
 
Widener outshot Lycoming 29-17, and held the advantage on ground balls 21-11.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday as they will take on Lebanon Valley in conference play at 7 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
