Baseball Splits Commonwealth Doubleheader with Albright

READING, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2015) – The Widener baseball team split a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Albright on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Pride fall to 11-11 and 5-5 in conference play, as Albright improves to 9-9-1 and 5-7.
 
In Game One, the Pride defeated the Lions, 6-2. However, in Game Two Widener was unable to earn the sweep, as they fell to Albright, 6-5.
 
Senior Robert Barth (Norristown, Pa.) held the Lions hitless through four innings. The righty allowed his first hit of the game with one out in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Evan High broke up the no-hit bid with a single to third base, and would later score on a home run by Max Dundore.
 
Barth allowed three hits and two runs in seven innings of work. The senior hurler fanned four and walked zero.
 
Sophomore Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) was 3-for-4 from the plate in Game One. He recorded one run scored and an RBI. The center fielder recorded a double and added a stolen base against the Lions.
 
Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.) finished 1-for-4 from the plat with two RBIs. The sophomore short stop knocked in Nicholas Enos (Wiliiamstown, N.J.) and Matthew Guarino (Jackson, N.J.) on a single to center field in the top of the seventh inning.
 
In Game Two, Widener opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when senior Michael Rytelewski (Brick, N.J.) scored on a Joseph Addvensky (Milford, Pa.) double-play.
 
Rytelewski was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored.
 
Junior Joe Santone (Blackwood, N.J.) allowed four runs, two walks and fanned three in five plus innings of work.
 
The Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, and two in the final frame to earn the split of the doubleheader.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Glenside, Pa. to finish the series up against Arcadia. First pitch for Game One of the Commonwealth Conference doubleheader is set for 1 pm.
