Powell Paces Women's Lacrosse to Victory Over Commonwealth Foe Alvernia, 17-12

READING, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2015) – Freshman midfielder Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) paced the Widener women's lacrosse team to victory with four goals as they defeated Alvernia, 17-12 in Commonwealth action Wednesday evening at Schlager Memorial Field.
 
The Pride improve to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in Commonwealth play, as the Crusaders drop to 5-4 and 1-2 on the year.
 
Powell notched her second consecutive four goal outing as the Pride earned their second straight Commonwealth victory. The freshman recorded one goal on three free position shots. All four of her goals were recorded in the first half of play, as the freshman now has 19 goals on the season.
 
The midfielder added one assist on junior Caitlyn Mullner's (Aston, Pa.) 11th goal of the season with just under three minutes left in the first half. The freshman ended the night with three ground balls and two draw controls. Mullner finished with two goals for the Pride.
 
Sophomore Jamie Hills (Ridley Park, Pa.) notched four goals in the victory.
 
Widener held a 13-8 advantage at half-time and recorded a perfect 15-of-15 on clearance attempts in the game.
 
Junior Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) recorded three goals and seven draw controls. The midfielder's third goal of the game closed out the scoring with 5:42 left in the contest.
 
Sophomore Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.) added three goals and sophomore Jamie Parent (Millville, N.J.) recorded her first goal of the year.
 
Senior net-minder Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) stopped 13 shots in 60 minutes of play for her fourth victory of the season.
 
Widener will be back in action on Saturday as they host Gwynedd Mercy in non-conference action at 1:00 pm. Prior to the game, the team will honor the graduating senior class.
