Women's Lacrosse Dominates Gwynedd Mercy in Non-Conference Action, 18-4

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 4, 2015) – The Widener women's lacrosse team put on a dominate performance as they defeated Gwynedd Mercy in non-conference action, 18-4, on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
The Pride improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Griffins fall to 5-6.
 
Sophomore attacker Brooke Clasing (Shrewsbury, Pa.) netted four goals off of the bench. She recorded five shots and picked up one ground ball for the Blue and Gold. Clasing is now second on the team with 21 goals on the season.
 
Freshman Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) added four goals on eight shots. The midfielder also picked up one ground ball and four draw controls. The freshman was one-of-two on free position shots. Powell leads Widener with 23 goals scored on the season.
 
Meghan Garvey (Avon Grove, Pa.) recorded three goals and two assist in the victory for the Pride. The junior midfielder picked up two ground balls and a game high nine draw controls.
 
Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, Pa.) notched two goals, including a 1-for-1 on free position shots against the Griffins. Freshman midfielder Alicia Dech (Nazareth, Pa.) added a goal and an assist in the victory.
 
Widener outshot Gwynedd Mercy 32-14, including 27 of those shots on goal. The Pride also held the advantage on ground balls with 20, while the Griffins picked up 14. Widener was 12-of-13 on clearance attempts, and Gwynedd Mercy was 5-of-9.
 
Kelsey Yori recorded all four goals for the Griffins. She picked up two ground balls and two draw controls.
 
Senior Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) earned her fifth victory of the year with six saves for the Pride.
 
Prior to the non-conference match-up, the Widener women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day for the three graduating seniors. Dunn, Megan Capobianco (Clementon, N.J.) and Danielle LaVallee (Prospect Park, Pa.) were honored for their accomplishments and commitment to the Widener women's lacrosse program.
 
Widener will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 pm as they host Swarthmore in non-conference action at Edith R. Dixon Field.
