Women's Lacrosse Falls Short in Commonwealth Opener to Albright, 11-9

CHESTER, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2015) – The Widener women's lacrosse battled tough in a back and forth tilt but could not come away with the victory as they fell to Albright, 11-9, at Edith R. Dixon Field on Wednesday night.
 
The Lions improve to 7-2 and 1-0 in conference play, while Pride drop to 2-4 and 0-1 in Commonwealth play.
 
Junior Caitlyn Mullner (Aston, Pa.) tied the game up at two mid-way through the first half. The midfielder scored her ninth goal of the season to tie the game up at four with just under six minutes remaining in the first half. Mullner's second goal of the night was assisted by junior attacker Lindsey Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.).
 
Freshman midfielder Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) and junior midfielder Meghan Garvey (Avon Grove, Pa.) each netted two goals against Albright. Garvey's first goal of the night was assisted by Mullner.
 
Attacker Erin Farrell notched six goals on eight shots in the victory for the Lions. Emily Hutson recorded eight saves in net for Albright.
 
Senior goalie Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes play for the Pride.
 
Head coach Julie La Zelle and her squad will be back in action on Saturday as they host Hood at 1:00 p.m. at Edith R. Dixon Field.
