Barth Fans Ten in Baseball's Commonwealth Conference Victory Over Arcadia, 13-0

CHESTER, Pa. (Mar. 23, 2015) – Senior pitcher Robert Barth (Norristown, Pa.) fanned ten as Widener baseball defeated Arcadia, 13-0, in conference play on Monday afternoon.
 
The Pride improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Commonwealth play, while the Knights dropped to 6-2 and 3-1 in conference play.
 
The righty didn't allow a baserunner until the top of the fifth inning when Arcadia's Tom Wagner was hit by a pitch. Wagner was later thrown out by senior catcher Paul Shepherd (Secane, Pa.) on an attempted steal. Barth walked one and allowed three hits in eight innings of work for the victory. The hurler improved to 1-2 on the season with a 1.93 earned run average in four appearances.
 
Senior outfielder Matt Scherer (Havertown, Pa.) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to left field.
 
Center fielder Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) notched two hits and three RBIs in three at-bats for Widener. The sophomore gave the Pride a 9-0 lead with a three-run double to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Michael Nessel was dealt the loss after allowing six earned runs and five outs in five innings of work. The righty walked four and struck out three in the loss.
 
Sophomores Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) and Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) each added a stolen base in the victory.
 
The Pride will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Swarthmore in the 320 Challenge at 3:30 p.m. in Chester, Pa.
