Women's Lacrosse Suffers Road Loss to Ursinus, 9-6

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (Mar. 18, 2015) – Despite a four goal second half, the Widener women's lacrosse team suffered a tough loss to Ursinus, 9-6, at Patterson Field Wednesday evening.
 
The Bears improve to 1-5 on the season, while the Pride drop to 1-3.
 
Sophomore attacker Jamie Hills (Ridley Park, Pa.) notched three assist in the mid-week matchup against Ursinus. Hills found freshman midfielder Kelsey Powell (Washington Township, N.J.) just under ten minutes into the first half for the tying goal. Shortly later, the freshman notched her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season to give Widener a short 2-1 advantage.
 
Four unanswered goals by Ursinus to end the first half gave the Bears a 5-2 edge heading into the locker rooms. Kitty Dawson scored twice and added an assist during the scoring run by Ursinus.
 
Powell cut the Bears lead in half five minutes into the second half with her third goal of the game.
 
Gianna Ciro (Media, Pa.), Lindsay Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.) and Kristen Bate (Somerdale, N.J.) each added a goal to close out the game for the Pride. Hills recorded her fourth and fifth assists of the season on the Ciro and Bate goals. Bate earned her first assist of the year on the goal scored by Brust.
 
Senior Megan Dunn (Oxford, Pa.) finished the game with 11 saves in 60 minutes of work in net.
 
Head coach Julie La Zelle and her squad will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Kean in Union, N.J. at 1 p.m.
