Field Hockey Concludes 2015 Campaign With 5-2 Loss to Arcadia

CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 27, 2015) – The Widener University field hockey team concluded its 2015 campaign with a 5-2 loss against Arcadia on Tuesday evening at Edith R. Dixon Field. The Knights scored five unanswered goals to close out Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play for both schools.

Arcadia improved to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play with the victory, while Widener ended its season at 6-9 overall and a 1-6 mark in league action with the loss.

The Pride came out firing on all cylinders and scored the first two goals of the game. Sophomore Kayla Herr (Lancaster, Pa.) set up junior Kaelei Renzi (Mantua, N.J.) for a marker in just the sixth minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead before scoring an unassisted tally herself in the 41st minute shortly after halftime.

The Knights, however, came storming back, as Rachel Longnecker completed a natural hat trick in just 6:08 to put the visitors in control. Gabby Sedares and Tess Brzezynski then added insurance tallies to produce the final outcome.

Brittany Hodson and Mia De Plato each saw time between the pipes and did not have to record a save to propel the Knights to victory. De Plato was credited with the win for entering the game after the Pride's second goal. Widener's Mikayla Ninos (Northampton, Pa.) made one save in the defeat.

Widener is slated to return 20 letterwinners and nine starters next season.
