CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2015) – The Widener University volleyball team dropped both of its games at a tri-match hosted by DeSales on Saturday afternoon. The Pride fell to Wheaton by a 3-1 score before being swept by the host school.
Widener, which is on the verge of clinching a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth postseason berth, began the day with a setback against Wheaton by set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16. Junior
Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) registered a double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs to lead the way for the Pride, while classmate
Lauren Elliott (Aston, Pa.) had 20 digs. Freshman
Janie Kalinock (Ellicott City, Md.) had seven kills and six blocks.
Later in the afternoon, DeSales defeated the Pride by set scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-19. Kalinock notched seven kills for the second straight game to go along with four blocks. Barbieri had two team bests with 22 assists and six digs, and sophomore
Carly Histing (Sicklerville, N.J.) finished with four kills and two service aces.
Widener (13-14) will look to qualify for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament when it hosts Lebanon Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
