CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 17. 2015) – Freshman
Natalie Winn (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded her second career double-double to lead the Widener University volleyball team to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Neumann on Saturday morning at the Schwartz Center. The Pride also fell in three sets to Stockton later in the day.
Widener (12-12), which also collected donations to benefit breast cancer research, rallied from two sets down against Neumann (11-16) to start the day on a high note. Set scores were 24-26, 13-25, 25-22, 25-21 and 15-11. Winn set two career highs with 14 kills and 14 digs, while junior
Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) also notched a double-double with 46 assists and 14 digs. Freshman
Nicole Dorman (East Norriton, Pa.) and junior
Lauren Elliott (Aston, Pa.) made strong contributions to the victory by finishing with 18 kills and 22 digs, respectively.
Later in the day, a red hot Stockton (23-2) squad which has been receiving votes in the national poll proved to be too much for the hosts. The Pride were competitive but fell by set scores of 26-24, 26-24 and 25-20. Barbieri notched her second double-double performance of the day with 23 assists and 10 digs. She also had three aces. Dorman notched 12 kills.
Widener next hosts Alvernia with potential playoff implications on the line on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
