Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls, 3-0, to Delaware Valley

Widener played tough against yet another quality opponent in being handed a 3-0 loss by Delaware Valley at Edith R. Dixon Field.

The Aggies (5-4) cracked the scoreboard in the 11th minute when a loose ball in front of the cage was picked up by Stefania Swider, who slapped it home.  The margin grew to 2-0 just 2:28 before intermission when Carlie Baldus tipped home a loose ball in front for her second goal of the year.

Delaware Valley then got an insurance goal in the 43rd minute as Swider took a pass from Lydia Spakosky and tipped in in for her sixth goal of the season and the final.

Senior Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) again played great with nine saves.  Sophomore Brittany Lavin (Phillipsburg, NJ) had two shots for the Pride (2-6).

Baldus fired five shots and Emily Aldridge played all 70 minutes for the Aggies.

Widener opens Commonwealth Conference play Thursday at Albright, starting at 6:00 pm in Reading, PA.
