Volleyball Drops Two on Opening Night of Knights Invitational

Widener fell to Richard Stockton in three sets (14-25, 14-25, 23-25), before dropping a tough match in five sets to Scranton (25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 14-25, 15-9) in Aston, PA.
 
Senior Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, Pa) led the Pride with eight kills in the first match against Stockton (7-1). 
 
Sophomore Sabrina Barbieri (Media, Pa) recorded 13 assists in three sets for Widener (1-8) against the Ospreys. Senior Victoria Miller (West Chester, Pa) led the Pride with 11 digs, bringing her season total to 115.
 
Senior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, Pa) finished the match against Stockton with six kills and classmate Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) also had six kills.

Against Scranton, Barbieri recorded 45 assists and became just the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 career assists.  Her career total now stands at 1,041.

Ruditys posted a career-best 22 kills to go with a .341 hitting percentage and 13 digs.  Dembeck notched 12 kills, Schnalzer posted 19 digs, Miller had 17 and sophomore Lauren Elliott had 12 (Aston, PA) playing in her hometown.
 
Widener returns to the court on Saturday to take on Moravian at 11:00 am and Muhlenberg at 3:00 pm at the Knights Invitational on the campus of Neumann University.
