Field Hockey Falls, 3-0, at Eastern


Widener gave up a pair of first-half goals and was handed a 3-0 loss at Eastern in St. Davids, PA.
 
Eastern scored its first goal in the 15th minute.  Gina Miller began a penalty corner, worked the ball to Lauren Gay and then got the ball back before scoring.
 
The Eagles made it 2-0 in the 28th minute following another penalty corner when Alexa Borrelli found the back of the cage off an assist from Hannah Bartholomew.  Miller ended the scoring in the 68th minute, firing a shot just inside the circle.
 
Senior Academic All-America goalkeeper Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) did all she could in net, making 14 saves that included nine after intermission for the Pride (1-3).  Freshman Eliza Newlin (Lewisburg, PA) had one shot.
 
Megan Bolton attempted seven shots with Gay and Danielle Frasca getting four each for the Eagles (2-2).
 
Widener plays its fourth road game in the young season on Saturday, when it visits Keystone for a 1:00 pm start in La Plume, PA.
