Sousa Comes Up Big Under Pressure in Men's Soccer's 0-0 Draw With Penn State Abington


Sophomore goalkeeper Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa) had crucial saves to open the 2014 campaign in a 0-0 tie against Penn State Abington at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
 
Playing in his first collegiate game, Sousa in the 42nd minute came up with a penalty kick save off of the foot of the Nittany Lions Alex Martins.
 
Sousa knocked away all six shots taken by Penn State Abington in the first half. Widener (0-0-1) added late pressure on Nittany Lions in the first half with five shots.
 
The Pride were not able to capitalize on their opportunities in the first half, only forcing two saves by Kole Dehaven.
 
Junior Malik Krcic (Saylorsburg, Pa) led the Pride with three shots and Grant Shaffer (Glen Rock, Pa) added two.
 
Widener next hits the pitch on Saturday against Berkeley College at 5:00 p.m. in the Garnet Alumni Classic at Swarthmore College.
