Ferrucci Leads Women's Basketball in Season Opening Victory over Virginia Wesleyan

Junior guard Ally Ferrucci (Vineland, NJ) led the women's basketball in the season opener as Widener defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 64-62, at the Hyatt Place Tip-Off Tournament in Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday.
 
Ferrucci sank the game winning free throw with less than a minute left. The junior went seven for ten from the free throw line and recorded 13 points in the season opener. She recorded one steal, two assists and five rebounds for Widener (1-0).
 
Senior Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, NJ) led the Pride with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. The senior went seven for eight from the charity line. She blocked two Virginia Wesleyan (0-1) shots and recorded two steals.
 
Freshman guard Allison Gallagher (Souderton, Pa) recorded 18 points in her first collegiate game. The guard led the team with three made baskets from beyond the arc in 40 minutes played for the Pride.
 
Widener shot 74 percent from the free throw line. Junior Brianna Wylie (Mount Laurel, NJ) went three for four from the line, while senior Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) went two for four. Reiter made a free throw to give the Pride a two point advantage with nine seconds left in the game.
 
The Pride will be back on the court on Sunday to take on Mary Washington in the championship game of the Hyatt Place Tip-Off Tournament at 2:00 pm.
