Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls, 3-0, at Top-Ranked Messiah

Widener gave its all against a tough squad in No. 1 Messiah, but was handed a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference loss in Grantham, PA.

Off to their best start in school history, the Pride (7-2-1, 0-1 CC) entered tonight with a five-game winning streak and high hopes in facing the defending national champions.

Messiah got on the board in the 11th minute when Brian Ramirez buried a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons double the margin to 2-0 just over a minute later when Mike Kovach found the back of the net off a feed from Jeremy Payne.

Zeb Cross made it 3-0 for the Falcons in the 77th minute, lifting a beautiful shot from roughly 20 yards that just snuck in under the crossbar.

Sophomore Dave Sousa (Springfield, PA) did all he could in goal, making nine saves in playing all 90 minutes for the Pride.  Junior Ross Staudt (Marlton, NJ) fired two shots.

Danny Brandt had four shots and Brandon West made one save over 82 minutes for the Falcons (11-0, 1-0).

Widener is on the road Wednesday at Alvernia, starting at 7:00 pm.
