Volleyball Battles Hard in 3-0 Loss to Stevenson

Widener gave Stevenson all it could handle and then some before falling in a tough 3-0 Commonwealth Conference loss (23-25, 22-25, 21-25) at Schwartz Center.
 
The two teams battled tooth and nail in the opening set before Stevenson (19-3, 4-0 CC) prevailed.  The Mustangs in the second set had 15 kills and held control most of the way.  Widener (5-19, 2-3) led most of the third set, but Stevenson fought back and held a 16-9 kills edge to regain control of the match
 
Sophomore Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) had nine kills and 14 digs, Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, PA) pounded seven kills and fellow senior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) had six for the Pride.  Sophomore Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) notched 24 assists and 13 digs with senior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) amassing 19 digs.
 
Barbieri now has 1,474 assists and moves past Maggie Greenberg into fifth place in school history.
 
Samantha Perillo played great for the Mustangs with 26 digs, Sara Bollinger notched 37 assists and Annika Schwartz totaled nine kills and 11 digs.  Megan Miller and Kristen Brooks also had nine kills for Stevenson, which posted a 43-28 edge.
 
Widener this Saturday will compete in a home tri-match against Neumann at 10:00 am and DeSales at 2:00 pm.  It also is the squad's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day as the team will raise money toward breast cancer research.
