Volleyball's Four-Match Winning Streak Snapped


Widener saw its four match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Whittier (20-25, 23-25, 13-25) and a 3-1 setback to Virginia Wesleyan (28-30, 18-25, 25-21, 23-25) at the Leopard Invitational in La Verne, CA.
 
Sophomore Sabrina Barbieri (Media, Pa) recorded 26 assists against Whittier (6-9) in the first match. Barbieri also recorded a two kills and no errors over 10 total attacks for a .200 hitting percentage.
 
Senior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, Pa) led Widener (5-17) with 10 kills and three errors on 17 total attacks for a .412 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman Lauren Daly (Aston, Pa) recorded a team high .714 hitting percentage on five kills with no errors on seven attacks.
 
In the second match of the day, the Pride faced a tough Virginia Wesleyan (17-5) squad that had only surrendered four sets in their last five matches.
 
Sophomore Lauren Elliott (Aston, Pa) recorded two assists and a team high 16 digs.
 
Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, Pa) finished with a team-high 13 kills and eight errors on 39 total attacks. The sophomore finished with a hitting percentage of .128.
 
Barbieri recorded 38 assists and a hitting percentage of .417 on 11 kills and one error on 24 total attacks against the Marlins.
 
Senior Victoria Miller (West Chester, Pa) finished the day with 28 digs, recording 14 in each match.
 
Widener will take the court on Saturday against Ponoma-Pitzer at 2:00 pm ET at the Leopard Invitational in Claremont, CA.
