Schnalzer Named Tournament MVP as Volleyball Again Wins Twice

(vs. SUNY Oneonta) / (vs. Cazenovia)

Junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) could not be stopped this weekend, taking home MVP honors as Widener won twice to complete an undefeated weekend and win the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, NY.

After winning twice Friday, Widener on Saturday recorded a 3-1 win (27-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20) over SUNY Oneonta before a 3-0 triumph (25-12, 25-10, 25-10) against Cazenovia.

Schnalzer, who ended the weekend with 39 kills, posted 11 against SUNY Oneonta to get things rolling. Senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) pounded eight kills, junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) had six along with five blocks, freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) dished 31 assists, junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) posted 19 digs and freshman Lauren Elliott (Aston, PA) added 14.

The surge continued vs. Cazenovia as Widener rolled in the first set with a .467 hitting percentage, versus just a .042 mark. The Pride owned a 40-16 kills edge and ended with a stunning .387 percentage.

Schnalzer amassed 11 kills, Barbieri and senior Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) had 16 assists each and Miller added 13 digs for Widener (6-3), which is off to its best start since beginning with the same mark in 2009.

It was Schnalzer's second all-tournament nod as she was so honored last weekend at Haverford. Barbieri also was picked to the all-tournament team after closing this weekend with 114 assists.

Widener is home Tuesday against Arcadia, starting at 7:00 pm.
